I'm Reminiscing

Well its been a couple of weeks since my last blog but the time lag was due  to fighting a cold( now in it's 3rd week)  and the cold in general. So I hope that anyone who reads this episode of Bakers Bits will find it interesting, because it's about something very close to my heart and that is my family!

Life is weird because as kids growing up the thought of  having kids or starting a family of our own was the last thing on our minds.  Catching frogs(not me I hated the little slimy things) playing Batman and Robin, going to the creek to fish for the day with your older brother or fighting with siblings was the favourite past time of most kids and what occupied our thoughts.

As we get older we dream that we someday we are lucky enough to meet the love of our lives with a plan to share our adult lives together.   Some of us are lucky the first time and  for others........ well it might take them 3 or 4 times to get it right. For me,  I knew what I wanted right away,  but I don't think my wife of almost 30 years knew what she was getting into when she said "Yes".  You see even at 54 I still need to act my age.   That being said, I wouldn't change a thing over the last 34 years that I've spent with my wife (remember we dated 4 years before we got married).  She is more then a just wife but my best friend, confidant and I guess that's why we are still going strong. She has kept my life on an even keel and I truly owe her my life.   (remember fellas go the Doctor when your wife tells you.)

Kids are a different story, everyone wonders if they will be good parents.   And when that day finally comes when you are going to be a new dad/mom panic kicks in because your life as you know changes for ever.  But you know,  I wouldn't change a thing for any of my 3 sons.  My wife was the smart one teaching them all the important things in life.   And me,  I tried to follow in my wife's footsteps.   Although she still makes most the appointment's and goes to the hospital or doctors  when they are sick.   I got to do  the cool stuff, like fish, sleep in boxes and play pirates. I'm not saying that my wife did all the hard and serious stuff.... but the bulk of it.  And I must say,  she planned all the coolest birthdays parties for our boys.  I remember a neighbour telling us that a child getting an invitation to our sons birthday was like getting the proverbial Wonka Golden Ticket!

Now that our kids are older my wife and I are changing  our lifestyles and doing different types of things that we put off when the kids were younger....... you know glamping, the theatre, traveling and going to restaurants without toys in the meal. Getting older with my wife has been everything and more, she hasn't missed a beat, she is still so fun to be with and her laugh is so addictive and I wouldn't change a thing in our lives.  I'm not saying that she still doesn't give me heck every now and then but really when it comes down to it I probably deserved it( yes I admit to the world, I may not be perfect).

Now that our boys have grown up and have girl friends of their own  it is good to see them all really  happy.  It is the same way I felt when I met their mom. Time has been good to me........ well except for all my grey hair, and extra 30 lbs( lol)  What time gave me was a chance to see my boys grow up, graduate, get good jobs and mature  into the type of young men I am proud to call my sons.

One of the greatest treasure's that I will always be grateful for is the growing up with  my wife.  But most of all I look forward to what the future holds for us.....so I guess you will just have to stay tuned to find out.
